Photo Contest Winners!

The CVMA’s Annual Pet Photo Contest took place in May in honor of National Pet Week. This year both the winning photo and the second place photo were submitted by technicians at Beckett & Associates Veterinary Services in Glastonbury.
The winning photo of her parent’s 9-year-old cat “Kirby” was submitted by Lindsay Bessette of Glastonbury, who is the Patient Care Coordinator at Beckett’s & Associates. The photo catches the domestic short-hair sleeping in the bird bath. Lindsay says, they noticed his unique sleeping spot one day and snapped the photo. She said there was “actually a bit of water in the bird bath” and he “slept there a good chunk of the afternoon.”
“I guess that’s one way to try to lure your prey in, “she says.
Kirby lives in Stonington and is one of 8 cats that her parents own. “He’s probably the coolest cat my parents have ever had,” she says, “He’s more like a dog – goes on walks with them, plays with them, etc.” He also likes to hang-out in her parents’ barn “terrorizing any nearby mice and birds.” Kirby survived a serious (“should’ve been/could’ve been fatal”) coyote attack a couple of years ago and lived with Lindsay in Glastonbury for more than a month while they were treating him.
Lindsay will receive a gift certificate for $100 in veterinary services.
Second Place Winner
The second place photo is of Jocelyn Otte’s dog, “Pacman” catching a snowball. Jocelyn, who resides in Middletown, is a certified veterinary technician at Beckett & Associates. Jocelyn says Pacman is and American Pitbull Terrier and was 3 years old at the time (2004) she rescued him from a bad situation in Hartford. She says she gave him a job as a weight pulling dog.
“He now is a retired International Weight Pulling Association professional and pulled 3,000 pounds at once on wheels during his career,” Jocelyn says. “He now spends most of his time playing outside, jet skiing on the lake and has been giving the general public a second look at this beautiful breed and what a great addition to the family they can be. He is by far a role model for the breed and is very loyal!”
Jocelyn will receive a gift certificate for $75 in veterinary services.
In addition, each of the photos will be included in CVMA’s 125th Anniversary Calendar for 2009, which will be available for purchase by member veterinary practices.
