The Connecticut Veterinary Medical Foundation is the charitable and service arm of the veterinary community of Connecticut. It supports education, scholarship and service programs that improve animal health and public health in Connecticut. The leadership of veterinarians facilitates a scientific approach to animal health and welfare issues and is what makes CVMF unique.
To enhance the health and welfare of domestic animals in Connecticut; and to be a safety net for Connecticut's domestic animals.
The CVMF VISION is to be accomplished through three missions:
. To promote disaster preparedness and response on behalf of domestic animals;
. To promote the human/companion animal bond;
. To promote the profession of veterinary medicine.
Disaster Preparedness: Through the provision of leadership and support to the Connecticut State Animal Response Team (CTSART) program, CVMF, in partnership with government, develops, administers and promotes animal disaster preparedness and response activities throughout Connecticut. CVMF participates in and sponsors emergency preparedness/disaster recovery programs at veterinary conferences.
The Human-Companion Animal Bond: To promote recognition of companion animals, particularly those animals which save lives, prevent injury, or enrich the human spirit through therapy or service programs. The Pet Sympathy Card program created on behalf of the veterinary community promotes the human-animal bond with animal owners. CVMF also seeks funding for necessary veterinary medical care for service animals.
The Profession of Veterinary Medicine: CVMF promotes the veterinary medical profession through support of academic institutions engaged in biomedical research as well as through educational outreach to the public and the profession. The CVMF pulicizes the profession's leadership activities.
